I am a member of First Baptist Church in Park Rapids and am the administrator of Pinewood Academy. In addition, I teach the middle school cluster. I have worked as a teacher for over 20 years. I taught in public education as a high school special education teacher for 14 years. After having my little girl, the Lord put on my heart to start up a Christian academy. While doing so has been an enormous undertaking, it has been exciting and wonderful to see the Lord prepare and provide. I love teaching and it is my calling and passion. My desire is to come alongside parents and help prepare my students academically and spiritually for life in a world growing more and more antagonistic to the things of God.

Sheila Van Riesen
I grew up in rural Minnesota, on a farm near Winnebago, close to the Iowa border. At the age of 8 I invited Jesus into my heart, after watching a Billy Graham Crusade on TV with my family.
I attended college at Northwestern in Orange City, Iowa. I studied for Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and Mission Service. I have a teaching license for Pre-K and K-6.
At college, I also met my husband, Matt. We have two children, whom I have homeschooled. My son has graduated and my daughter is still in her high school years.
Over the past years, I have taught children through various avenues, either as a Preschool Teacher, a Sunday School teacher, or at Homeschool Co-op (PRAHSA) at Faithbridge church in Park Rapids ( which is where we attend services). I believe my style of teaching would be one that incorporates the use of all the senses, or more hands-on. I like to include writing as an activity. I feel it is important that a child understands, and if that child cannot grasp a concept one way, then I need to find other ways to make the concept become more clear.
In February of 2023, I began teaching at Pinewood Academy.
I have fallen in love with teaching at Pinewood Academy, where the atmosphere feels cozy and like a big family.

I became a born again, spirit led Christian in the fall of 2004 at the Motley Free Methodist Church in Motley, MN. My husband Tony and I currently live near Pine River, MN and we have 6 children and 7 grandchildren. Together, we take turns running our highway contracted mail route in Backus and Hackensack, MN. We also teach Children's Ministry Sunday mornings at Grace Community Church in Osage, MN.
